Application of Ozone in Drinking Water Treatment

Ozone plays a core role in advanced oxidation and green disinfection in drinking water (tap water) treatment. It efficiently inactivates bacteria, viruses, and Cryptosporidium without forming chlorinated disinfection by-products. It also oxidizes and decomposes organic matter, iron, manganese, and odor-causing substances, improving water color and taste. In addition, it promotes colloidal coagulation and enhances filtration efficiency. Finally, ozone decomposes into oxygen without leaving any residue, ensuring both water safety and environmental friendliness. It is a key process in modern advanced drinking water treatment.
